How to prevent fabric color transfer, bleeding, and fading?

A common myth circulating on the internet is that washing the product in vinegar or salt “fixes” the color and prevents it from fading. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Vinegar helps set some acid dyes, but only during the dyeing process, not with cotton dyes. Similarly, salt is used in the dyeing process to stimulate the fiber to absorb the dye, but it does not prevent the dye from leaking or staining after the garment is dyed. If you’ve tried salt and it seems to work, it’s only because the extra washing has removed the last remnants of unbound dye. Here are some ways which would help you reduce the fading:

1, Wash together clothes of the same color: Wash together clothes of the same color and remember that not only new clothes fade. Chemical fixatives or mordants used to set the color in the fibers can wear out after many washes. So always wash clothes of the same color together to prevent fading, no matter how old they are or how many times you’ve washed them.

2, Wash delicate clothes sparingly: Many of us wash our clothes too often for fear of looking dirty or smelly. However, for delicate clothes, try to wash them as infrequently as necessary. Before you wash an item, ask yourself, “Is it really dirty and does it really need to be washed?” If it just smells, try airing it out or using an odor remover like Febreze. If only a small area is dirty, clean it in small sections.

3, Use cool water: Wash with cool or cold water. Hot water loosens the fibers of the fabric, allowing the dye to come out and flow away. If you live in a very cold region, the water may get too cold in the winter. So set the washing machine to 30ºC (86ºF). Make sure you use a detergent that is suitable for use in cold water.

4, Minimize friction: Friction created during washing can cause microcracks in the fibers and lead to the release of dye. This is one of the reasons why fabrics fade over time. You can minimize this rubbing by washing heavy items, such as jeans, in the same load. Also close zippers and hooks and turn the garment inside out. This method is especially effective for jeans.

5, Do not leave wet clothes sit: Do not leave wet clothes on the pile or in the machine for too long to prevent the dyes from bleaching.

6, Dry in the shade: Since the sun can have a bleaching effect, dry clothes in the shade and do not use a tumble dryer.

Of course, we can make the color fading slower in some other ways. For example, we can make the fabric have a higher color fastness because the dyed agent is harder to escaped from fabrics. This means that the fabric can be washed many times, but the color agents will not escape from the yarn. Welcome to contact us please if you want to realize about our fabrics.
