How to identify the polyester and nylon

Polyester and nylon are widely used in various clothing in daily life and are closely related to our lives. This article wants to introduce how to distinguish between polyester and nylon simply and efficiently.

1, In terms of appearance and feel, polyester fabrics have darker luster and relatively rough feel; nylon fabrics have brighter luster and relatively slippery feel.

2, From the view of material properties, nylon generally has better elasticity, the dyeing temperature is 100 degrees, and it is dyed with neutral or acid dyes. High temperature resistance is worse than polyester, but it has better strength and good pilling resistance. The dyeing temperature of polyester is 130 degrees, and the hot-melt method is generally baked below 200 degrees. The main feature of polyester is that it has better stability. Generally, adding a small amount of polyester to clothes can help anti-wrinkle and shape, but it is easier to pilling and easy to generate static electricity.

3,  The easiest way to distinguish between polyester and nylon is the combustion method.

Combustion of nylon fabric: nylon will curl up quickly and burn into white gel when it is close to the flame. It will emit white smoke, emit a celery smell, and will foam. Moreover, there is no flame when nylon is burned. It is difficult to continue to burn when remove it from the flame. After burning, you can see the light brown melt, which is not easy to twist by hand.

Combustion of polyester fabric: Polyester is easier to ignite, and it will curl immediately when it is near the flame. When it burns, it will melt while emitting black smoke. The flame is yellow and emits a fragrant smell. After burning, it will produce dark brown lumps, which can be twisted with your fingers.
